Thunder roll over Regals in Ontario Junior B Finals advance to Founders Cup

The Ontario Junior B Lacrosse Finals certainly didn't disappoint.

The best-of-five went the distance with the Akwesasne Thunder outlasting the previously playoff unbeaten Guelph Regals 12-3 in the fifth and deciding game.

Trysen Sunday led the Thunder with six goals in the victory, and was the team's postseason points leader with 39 goals and 73 points in  16 games.

Teammate Tehokwirathe Barreiro chipped in with 38 assists and 62 points.

Carter Mackay was Guelph's playoff point leader tallying 60 points in 14 games.

Between the pipes Xavier Delormier posted a 7.00 goals against average and .863 save-percentage over the course of the Thunder's postseason run.

The Regals Dane Dickinson was not far behind with a 7.54 goals against average and .835 save-percentage.

Akwesasne took Game 1 by a final score of 13-8, Guelph won Game 2 7-4. The Thunder won Game 3 16-4, the Regals rebounded in Game 4 with an 11-9 victory.

Akwesasne now advances to the Founders Cup  - the Canadian Junior B Box Lacrosse Championship - held in Saint John, New Brunswick from this Sunday August 16 to August 23.

The Thunder will be joined by Seneca WarChiefs representing the First Nations Junior B Lacrosse League, the host Saint John Rapids (East Coast Junior Lacrosse League Champions) Sackville Wolves of Nova Scotia, Port Coquitlam Saints (BC Junior B Lacrosse Tier 1 Champions) and the Mavericks Elite Lacrosse Club - Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League Champions.
